Rock hounds love Alpena’s karst formations. Once you’ve picked your fill of Devonian fossils at Rockport, head out to view more than a dozen sinkholes in the Alpena Area. There are more than 200 sinkholes in the area but a few offer spectacular views and are publicly accessible.
With more than 10 sandy Lake Huron beaches, many public kayak launches, single-track mountain biking trails, and many picnic pavilions; Alpena’s trails, parks, and beaches offer variety for every age and activity level.
Fossils, Trails, Biking, Hiking, Sinkholes, History, Ghost Village, Lake Huron, a shipwreck, fishing, bird watching and even Bats…. It’s all here at Rockport State Recreation Area!
